Institute Mission
The ITN - Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (Nuclear and Technological Institute), is a National Laboratory for research and development in the field of nuclear sciences. Recently restructured and placed under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT, ITN succeeds to the former Instituto de Ciências e Engenharia Nucleares (ICEN) as a consequence of the reorganization of the larger State Laboratory INETI, where it was included.
The Institute has competence in the field of nuclear safety, environmental and health protection, being, in itself, a unique institution in Portugal. The main scientific and technical achievements are grouped in the following areas:
- New materials and compounds;
- Environmental Sciences;
- Inorganic Chemistry, Radiochemistry and Radiopharmacy;
- Nuclear Engineering;
- Industrial Technologies;
- Cultural Heritage and Sciences.
