Quality Management System

The Laboratory of Radiological Protection and Safety (LRPS) implemented a Quality Management System (QMS) based on the Portuguese Standard NP EN ISO/IEC 17025. This standard includes management and technical requirements, that LRPS laboratories must meet to ensure the quality of administrative and technical activities.

With the implementation of QMS aims to improve methods to identify problems, to implement corrective actions/ preventive actions, to maintain a high level of accuracy and precision of results, with the assurance that the general requirements and customer expectations are being met according to the Quality Policy. In this context, the Portuguese Institute of Accreditation (IPAC) issued on 09-07-2012, the Accreditation Certificate No. L0620 which formalizes, in accordance with its Technical Annex, the accreditation for the following 10 techniques:

  • Gross Alpha by Liquid Scintillation Counting;
  • Gross Beta by Liquid Scintillation Counting;
  • Gross Alfa by Proportional Counting;
  • Gross Beta by Proportional Counting;
  • Tritium by Liquid Scintillation Counting;
  • Determination of Hp (0.07) for X and gamma radiation (1 mSv-5 Sv; 24keV to 1250 keV);
  • Determining of Hp (10) for X and gamma radiation (0.1 mSv-5 Sv; 24keV to 1250 keV);
  • Activity by high resolution gamma spectrometry/gamma emitting radionuclides in the energy range (46.5, 1836) keV;
  • Verification of the linearity response for ambient dose equivalent H*(10);
  • Verification of the linearity response for personal dose equivalent H(10).
