Presentation

The research activities of the Group of Dosimetry and Radiobiology  (DR) are based on:

  • Individual monitoring of doses received by radiation workers;
  • Environmental dosimetry to monitor the radiation doses received by the population from the radioactive background;
  • Computational dosimetry to simulate and compute doses and effects at the sub-cellular level;
  • Application of citogenetics' methods to assess radiation damage in the chromosomes;
  • Use of the observed dicentric chromosome aberrations as biomarks of the radiation dose.

Goals

Main goals of this group are the following:

  • Control of doses received by radiation workers to verify compliance with the law;
  • Knowledge of the natural radiation background;
  • Research on the radiation effects on man. Estimate radiation dose received by incidentally irradiated people through the analysis of the chromosome aberrations observed.
