These laboratories, for the storage, handling and preparation of radioactive compounds, are under reduced pressure and are equipped with hot cells, perspex glove boxes and fume cupboards which allow a safe handling of radioactive compounds.
This infrastructure is also equipped with radiation monitors, dose calibrators and gamma counters for safety control and measurement of radioactivity. Radionuclides handled in this laboratory are some of the mostly used in Nuclear Medicine imaging and therapy. Some examples are 125/131/123I, 99mTc, 67Ga, 64/67Cu, 153Sm, 166Ho and 177Lu.
Under a protocol established with our Group, this infrastructure is regularly used for radiopharmacy training of students from ESTeSL (Escola Superior de Tecnologias da Saúde de Lisboa) and for physicians resident in Nuclear Medicine.
Hot cells - Perspex glove boxes.
Gamma counter - Ionization chamber.
Whole body and hand radiation monitors.
