Scientific Specialization

  • Solid State Physics and Chemistry.
Main Scientific Areas of Research

  • The main scientific have been related with the strongly correlated electron systems which aim at establishing correlations between the crystal structure of intermetallic compounds with f elements and their unusual properties such as heavy fermion, spin fluctuations, etc. derived from the existence of narrow bands nearby or at the Fermi level. The experimental work involves their synthesis, structure and physical characterization. Magnetic properties by means of DC magnetization and AC susceptibility of a wide variety of materials with special relevance on intermetallics and new magnetic molecular compounds have been extensively explored.
  • Responsible for the Magnetic Characterization Facility (Maglab 2000 and SQUID) of the Solid State group.

Membership of Professional Societies

  • Member of Centro de Física da Matéria Condensada (CFMC-UL) of the University of Lisbon, in the "magnetic properties of materials" domain.

Scientific Works
  • PhD Thesis in Inorganic Chemistry "Intermetallic Compounds from the An2T2X Family, An = U, Np, Pu e Am, T = Transition metal from groups 8 to 12, X = In and Sn", Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
  • Author or co-author of more than 55 original publications in Refereed Journals.
  • 90 lectures, oral presentations and communications to national and international meetings.
