Scientific Specialization
Main Scientific Area of Research
- The main research activity has been essentially related to the
synthesis and characterization of lanthanide alkoxides and
aryloxides. The reactions of lanthanide metals with alcohols and
phenols were studied by new synthetic methods, namely by metal
vapour synthesis (MVS), by dissolution in liquid ammonia and by
direct reactions. The gas phase reactions of lanthanide cations with
alcohols, phenols and alkylorthoformates by Fourier transform ion
cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR/MS) were also studied.
- Presently works in the area of the synthesis, characterization
and reactivity of organocompounds of lanthanides and actinides,
developing new studies concerning the chemistry of f-elements
supported by multidentate donnor ligands (oxygen and nitrogen),
namely bis(phenolate)diamines. The utilization of electrospray
ionization mass spectrometry (ESI/MS) in the study of the
interactions of lanthanide and actinide cations with several types
of ligands is also under investigation.
