Main Scientific Area of Research

  • Her main areas of expertise are Radiation Protection, Radioactive Waste Management Strategies, Radioactive Waste Treatment Technologies, mainly uranium milling and mining wastes and Remediation of Contaminated Sites.

Nominations

  • Invited Consultant for the IAEA on development of training material for the Module in “Management of NORM Waste”, Waste Safety Section, involved in EU Projects under the RADWASTE Research Framework Programs and FCT Contracts.
  • Nominated National Representative at the Concerted Action Group in the Field of Categorization of Radioactive Wastes in the EU, Contract Implementation and Evaluation Group-Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection-Radioactive Waste Management Policy and CCE Fission Working Group on Waste Management and Atomic Questions Group.
  • Nominated Portuguese member for the WASSC Committee of the IAEA and she was nominated to attend the WPNS Group and the AQG of the European Council.

Teaching Activities

  • She teaches Fundamentals of Radiological Protection, Radwaste Management and Liquid Radwaste Treatment Technologies in Post-Graduated Courses at Technical University of Lisbon (invited professor at Physics Department of IST) and at Faculty of Sciences of the Classical Lisbon University (Chemistry Department).
  • She co-orientates thesis on advanced training (Ph.D, Masters and DFA) with Oporto and Lisbon Universities.
